The Bryant-Denny scoreboard read 42-21 at the end of the game. Anyone who watched knows that the reality was much different than that.

The Crimson Tide rolled to a 28-0 halftime lead before easing off the gas pedal in the second half.

The tone was set during the first two possessions of the game. Ole Miss marched quickly, yet methodically to the Alabama six yard line before being turned away on a 4th down rushing attempt. It was the first of several called by Lane Kiffin that would not go his way.

From there Alabama displayed both its gameplan and its ability to carry it out in a 13-play, 94-yard touchdown drive that took 6:31 off the clock and put the Tide on top for good.

The remainder of the first-half possessions showed that Alabama is still Alabama and Ole Miss is still not ready to challenge.

Lane Kiffin is an innovative offensive play-caller. But that’s all he’s proven himself to be. 

Alabama so outmatched the Rebels at the line of scrimmage that any scheme Kiffin had in mind was rendered useless. Lane may have had big plans, but most of his kernels were left unpopped.
