Alabama WR DeVonta Smight was announced as the 86th winner of the Heisman Trophy on Tuesday evening.

Smith became the third Alabama player to win the prestigious award given annually to the nation’s best player, and the first wide receiver to win in 30 years.

Smith tallied 1,856 points, surpassing a trio of quarterbacks: Trevor Lawrence (1,187) of Clemson, Alabama teammate Mac Jones (1,130), and Kyle Trask (737) of Florida. Smith and Jones were the first pair of Southeastern Conference teammates to be named finalists since multiple candidates were invited to take part in the live show in 1982. Crimson Tide running back Najee Harris (216) finished fifth in the final vote.

“To all the kids out there that’s not the biggest, not the strongest, just keep pushing, because I’m not the biggest; I’ve been doubted a lot just because of my size. Really, it just comes down to if you put your mind to it, you can do it. No job is too big.”

Smith and his Alabama teammates will face Ohio State for the National Championship Monday night for the National Championship.
